C2C Firing Range
The Bexar County Fire Marshals range, completed in 2012, is equipped with two target systems, running man and turning man systems, and has the capability of a third target system, a pop-up target system.
The facility was built in phases, with two decks of 20-lane, 50-yard ranges equipped with granulated rubber bullet trap systems, ensuring maximum safety.
Each 20-lane deck is constructed to maximize natural ventilation with 8” concrete tilt-up panels and overhead baffles to create a no-blue sky range.
C2C Fire Rescue Station
The Emergency Services District 4 Fire Rescue Station is a 12,171-square-foot facility with three apparatus bays. It will house an active fire station and the district’s administration staff.
The design incorporates massing and roof profiles configured to capture natural north light, enhancing energy conservation measures necessary to a 24-hour facility through the integration of clerestory windows and translucent wall panels.
The design features of the Emergency Services District 4 Fire Rescue Station are not just for aesthetics but also for practicality. The clerestory windows introduce daylighting in gathering areas where the firefighters cook, dine and socialize, enhancing their work environment. The translucent wall panels reduce energy use by introducing subdued light into storage areas and the apparatus bays, contributing to the facility’s energy efficiency.
While the roof profiles provide opportunities to capture north light to minimize energy use, the slopes maximize the sun exposure of photovoltaic solar panels mounted on the roof of the apparatus bays.
C2C Joe Ward Pool House
The design of the Joe Ward Pool House building emphasizes a contemporary cultural aesthetic. The exterior veneer design is derived from the playful nature of the pool facility and the people who use it. The brightly colored randomly placed glazed masonry speaks toward the spirit of fiesta, and the traditional cascarón confetti-filled egg. The building is located within the City of San Antonio’s Council District 8 which has a strong cultural history and the design integrates the structure into the community.
Def. A cascarón (plural cascarones, without accent mark; from Spanish cascarón, “eggshell”, the augmentative form of cáscara, “shell”) is a hollowed-out chicken egg filled with confetti or small toys.
